Yes you can. The reason I don't is because you would have to go through disaster recovery if the upgrade fails.

Doing it the opposite way you can migrate without much operational impact during the migration process.

Can we do it by following way?

Rather than decommissioning original site, Upgrade original site to SCCM,Make it parent to newly installed SCCM site.So that normal stuff replicate down the hierarchy, and when it has all replicated down & then decommission old server.

I'll share what they do, just not the sources just yet. Don't worry I'll make the sources available after I have cleaned them up a bit, and after I have given my session.

Countobjects: Counts the number of pkg's, adv's, swmtr rules, collections, folders, queries & reports to see wheter everything has been migrated.

Smscontainers: migrates an entire folder structure to the new environment

advfoldermembership: moves advertisements back to the correct folder

modadvert: modifies advertisements to run from dp if no local dp is found.

Thanks for the post Kim. One thing I don't like at ALL is that when you schedule the update cycle on the server, the client does not reflect the schedule on the Updates tab. I found that (if an admin on the box) you can change / override when the updates take place. It would be great if you could make that unchangable by any end user. I'm in agreement that software Updates rock in CM 2007. Add in the maintenance windows on the collections and you have some powerful resources at your fingertips. All this will be fully shown in the SCCCM Level 5 Guide. I can't wait to show it.

Nope, this means like the text sais that you can't install branch dp's on a windows 2000 os. And even if you did get it to install that it would be unsupported.

I read on the following link that "Branch distribution points cannot be installed on client computers running the Windows°2000 Professional operating system or the Windows°2000 Server operating system."

Is that mean we can install it on only on win2k SP4 version and not less than this.

This is pretty much the setup I had set for my enviroment I am deploying. The GPO also had listed specific reboot options and was set to no reboot. What ended up happening is I had a DC and Citrix box reboot unexpectedly after receiving the client via SUP. There was a 5 minute countdown prior to the reboot. This was while I had the site in native mode. I have since disabled the client install via SUP due to this problem. I also have had to switch to Mixed mode due to the 2000 machines being in the environment. I'm running the Eval version of SCCM with an upgrade to the full product when finally released. Hopefully I can figure out why the reboot when the GPO said not to.

Good post Kim. My biggest drawback is the size of MMC 3.0 and the way it works. Also, have you seen this pic? http://www.blogcastrepository.com/blogs/brian_tucker/archive/2007/03/05/configuration-manager-2007-admin-console.aspx

I have been looking at the registry to make more tools like the ones I and many others made for SMS 2003. I will take a look at this the next time I have the lab running.

Even if CM wizards had a check box to not show the welcome page, it never worked for me anyway in previous versions.

Hi Nirvana 99,

The policy for connecting secondary sites to a primary site cross forest had not changed in configmgr 2007. So, the answer is no, this is not a supported configuration. If the customers install a primary site than it would be a supported config.

Dear All,

Will SCCM allow for multiple AD forests to be effectively managed ? I have a customer with a data center. He has one AD forest on his management VLAN. All of his customers have separate AD forests on separate VLANs. Will SCCM allow for secondary sites only on each of the AD forests thereby allowing for the management AD forest (and its Central Site) to manage the downstream customers and their downstream resources?

Thanks for the great advice. Wish I found it BEFORE I ran extadsch :-)

I ran it w/o disconnecting the schema master. It ran OK, the log confirms that and if run again it says "already exists" in the log. I still have trouble autodiscovering MP. How can I check to ne SURE that schema extension was correct? I see the System Management in AD and it has entries. Is that enough to be know it's OK
