Outlook Gadgets for the Vista Sidebar

I was hoping this would come sooner than later! Microsoft has started to release gadgets for the Windows Vista sidebar! I am happy about this for three reasons:

  1. They work well
  2. They interoperate well and
  3. They look good!

Outlook was also a logical choice for some of the first gadgets. PIM information naturally lends itself to a "dashboard" interface for easy reference.

You may remember that I posted that I was kind of against the SideBar... I agree that it's great that MSFT is making these available, but take the 2 gadgets above... If you have Outlook open which 99% of us do all day long, do you really need that notification on the sidebar? Same goes for Tasks. Outlook will handle it.

Now, if MSFT or someone comes up with something really helpful, then I will consider using it. MSFT ripped this off from Macintosh and I think they are just making stuff to fill up the sidebar.

Sorry, Chris... not meaning to rip your post. That's not my purpose here. I simply don't get the real business justification for the Sidebar. It's a toy IMHO.... I'm willing to bet that 90% of organizations will block it with GPO's. Home users will get the most out of it I guess.

Is anyone using this on a business machine with a business purpose or just for fun???
