New ThinkPad Designs Released
I have always been a big fan of the Thinkpad. While traditionally more expensive, they are one of the most reliable and best made laptops around. They are also one of the best made for the enterprise and boast a ton of management capabilities built in, both at the hardware and software level, for support and end users. The Dell is pitiful in comparison in this regard. They also allow their design team to blog openly about the thought process behind design decisions on their laptops. The transparency is refreshing. This latest post is in regard to the new model designs in the widescreen T61 and R61 supporting the Santa Rosa chipset from Intel. They even built a weight-neutral roll cage in to the display to better protect it from bowing. And a battery extender function that lets you say "I need to extend battery life for another 10 minutes" and then shuts down non-essential processes to help you as best it can accomplish this goal. Nice.
