Save Weblog Settings

This is the exe file. It is named, Save Weblog Settings.exe"

Launching the exe file brings up the dialog above. The list of blogs you have configured in Live Writer are displayed. Select the blogs whose settings you want to backup by checking each one in the box or clicking, "Select All". You can also check, "Clear All" to start again.

Clicking, "Backup Settings" begins the backup process. The progress box shows the data as it is read from the registry.

Once the utility is done the dialog above appears telling you that a reg file with your settings has been created and that it is named, "webblogsettings.reg". You can take this reg file and run it on other systems or when restoring your system to get access to your blogs in Live Writer without having to enter the settings in again manually.

Now, you may be asking yourself, why can't I just backup the reg key with this information? The short answer is you can! The path you want to look at is, "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows Live Writer\Weblogs". You can backup all weblog settings from here or individual ones by looking at the subkeys. The utility just makes it easier to select the blog config data to save since it uses friendly names instead of GUID's. It's also easier for those folks not as comfortable in regedit.
