    Recreating A User Account

    Hello,

I am currently testing Windows Server 2008. I have installed active directory and have created a few users. I have created a shared folder called "Profiles" where the user stores his profile information. I used a group policy object with folder redirection enabled in order to redirect the user's Documents folder to a different shared folder on the server called "Homes". Everything is working great for the most part. The only problem I seem to run into is when I delete a user account (including all of the user's profile and Documents information on the server) and then recreate the account with the same name. At first everything is fine, but the user's Documents is no longer being redirected to the Homes folder on the server. This only occurs when I recreate an account with the same name as one I had deleted earlier. If I create another account with a new name everything is completely fine. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thank you!

    Re: Recreating A User Account

I would check the acl of the folder, check to see if the account name of the new user has been granted access to it and well it the access is enough.

Perhaps when you recreate the account with the same name that name of the previous accoun is in there versus the new account.

    Re: Recreating A User Account

Thanks for your response. I apologize for not replying sooner. Let me take a minute to explain the folder structure. The “Homes” folder is shared and has full permissions for everyone. The way I have the GPO set is to redirect the contents of each user's Documents folder into /Homes/%username%/Documents (This directory is created when the user logs on for the first time). So when their Documents is redirected, a folder is created in Homes that is named after the user name. Everyone has full control over this folder as well. However, when the “Documents” folder is created, only the user can do anything with and inside this folder since the Documents folder does not inherit permissions from the username folder. Thus everyone else is locked out. Again, all of this is done automatically when folder redirection is applied. So, I believe the ACL is set correctly (since everyone has full control in Homes). I just don't understand why a user name folder is not created after recreating a user with the same name as a previously deleted user. It's somewhat confusing to explain. I hope I was clear, thanks again! Smile
