Collections are logical groups of resources in CM 2007. Without them, you would not be able to deploy applications, security updates, operating system images, monitor configurations and other items. Collections are the heart of CM and once your environment is setup, you will spend more time configuring collections than doing most other tasks. The video shows a good amount of information which will be more than enough to get you started on the right path. The video shows the following:

  • How to setup boundaries so that your resources are properly assigned.
  • How to enable user, security groups & system discoveries from Active Directory
  • Network Discovery
  • Direct Membership collections
  • SQL Query collections
  • Approving clients in mixed mode
  • Blocking resources from CM
  • How to enable software and hardware inventory / Resource Explorer

Post questions in the CM 2007 forums.

Thank you, this video production is exceptional. I look forward to the continued series as I'm in the process of testing SCCM 2007 for an upgrade from SMS 2003. I was having some complications with using the wizards. But this video is very informative, thanks again. Tony

ChandanS - Agreed, the videos don't always look the best in the window. It's one of my project tasks to make them look better. If you are a registered member, you will have the option to download the video and watch it in Media Player and most people tend to do that. I hope that helps.
